Senator James Murango (Kirinyaga) has sought a Statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Education regarding the state of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) in the County Government of Kirinyaga.

The Senator raised concerns following numerous complaints about the deteriorating state of ECDE in the county as well as the lack of a conducive learning and teaching environment for both learners and teachers.

In the Statement, the Senator is requesting the Committee to address several key issues, including the number of ECDE centres in Kirinyaga County with details on the number of permanent and semi-permanent classrooms as well as the existing classroom shortage.

The Lawmaker has questioned the status of implementation of the ECDE teachers' Scheme of Service by the County Government of Kirinyaga. He also sought information on the current teacher-to-pupil ratio and whether there is a shortage of ECDE teachers in the county.

The Committee is required to state the measures that the County Government of Kirinyaga has taken to ensure that all ECDE teachers are employed on permanent terms, receive their salaries on time and are promoted following due process.
