Senator Eddy Oketch (Migori) has raised concerns about financial mismanagement in Migori County calling for a thorough investigation into its fiscal practices. In a request before the Senate, Sen. Oketch urged the Standing Committee on Finance and Budget to investigate a withdrawal of KES 309,677,292 by the County Executive, demanding a detailed breakdown of how the funds were spent.
โThe people of Migori deserve to know how their money is being used,โ Oketch stated. โWe need a comprehensive account of these expenditures to ensure funds benefit our citizens.โ He also requested detailed records of bursary funds disbursed during the 2023/2024 financial year, including receipts and acknowledgment letters from beneficiaries. Additionally, he sought clarification on the legal framework of the countyโs economic empowerment initiative, which distributed KES 40 million to 400 community groups in February 2025.
In a further demand, Oketch pressed for transparency regarding the countyโs pending bills. โWe must understand how these bills accumulated and whether due process was followed in procurement and payments,โ he said. He called for a breakdown of funds allocated to settle these bills in the 2024/2025 financial year, along with an update on the payment plan.
