Senator Eddy Oketch (Migori) has raised concerns about financial mismanagement in Migori County calling for a thorough investigation into its fiscal practices. In a request before the Senate, Sen. Oketch urged the Standing Committee on Finance and Budget to investigate a withdrawal of KES 309,677,292 by the County Executive, demanding a detailed breakdown of how the funds were spent.

โ€œThe people of Migori deserve to know how their money is being used,โ€ Oketch stated. โ€œWe need a comprehensive account of these expenditures to ensure funds benefit our citizens.โ€ He also requested detailed records of bursary funds disbursed during the 2023/2024 financial year, including receipts and acknowledgment letters from beneficiaries. Additionally, he sought clarification on the legal framework of the countyโ€™s economic empowerment initiative, which distributed KES 40 million to 400 community groups in February 2025.

In a further demand, Oketch pressed for transparency regarding the countyโ€™s pending bills. โ€œWe must understand how these bills accumulated and whether due process was followed in procurement and payments,โ€ he said. He called for a breakdown of funds allocated to settle these bills in the 2024/2025 financial year, along with an update on the payment plan.
