Senator Daniel Maanzo (Makueni) has urged the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare to clarify the employment status of healthcare workers hired by the National Government under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) programme during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He wants the committee to provide figures on how many of these workers remain on contract and explain why they have not been transitioned to Permanent and Pensionable terms despite their continued service. He has also asked what steps the Ministry of Health is taking to ensure fair employment conditions in line with the law.

Maanzo is further seeking details on whether budgetary provisions exist for their absorption and a timeline for transitioning them to the permanent and pensionable establishment.
