Senator Richard Onyonka (Kisii) has raised pressing concerns in the Senate regarding allegations of financial mismanagement at Kisii National Polytechnic and the controversial eviction of an elderly widow from her matrimonial land.

While requesting a statement at the Floor of the House, Onyonka questioned the abrupt transfer of the Polytechnicโ€™s principal amid an ongoing probe. โ€œThe Auditor-Generalโ€™s reports have highlighted significant financial discrepancies, including the misappropriation of student fees and unauthorized expenditures. The transfer of the principal raises serious concerns about accountability,โ€ he stated. He urged the Senate Committee on Education to investigate the matter, ensuring those responsible are held accountable.

In a separate statement, the senator condemned the eviction of 80-year-old Agnes Kemuma Bichanga from her late husbandโ€™s land in Nyamira County. โ€œMrs. Bichanga has lived on this land for over 55 years. The claim on her property, made barely three weeks after her husbandโ€™s burial, reeks of fraud and injustice,โ€ Onyonka asserted. He called for an immediate review of land records, questioning how a title deed was issued under dubious circumstances. โ€œThe government must protect widows from land dispossession and ensure justice prevails,โ€ he urged.

The senator demanded urgent intervention from the Ministry of Lands, Parliament and relevant agencies, warning against public officials complicit in fraudulent transactions.
