Senate Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee Chair Wakili Hillary Sigei, hosted the Iranian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Dr. Ali Gholampour for a meeting focused on justice, legal affairs and human rights.
Welcoming the Iranian delegation, Senator Sigei reaffirmed Kenyaโs commitment to open dialogue on legal and human rights issues. โKenya upholds the principles of justice, fairness and human dignity. As a nation, we believe in fostering partnerships that promote mutual understanding and respect in addressing legal and human rights matters,โ he stated. He further acknowledged Iranโs efforts in engaging with international human rights mechanisms, encouraging continued collaboration in areas of legal and judicial development.
Ambassador Gholampour outlined Iranโs stance on human rights, emphasizing that โrespect for human rights and dignity is a fundamental principle enshrined in our national traditions and religious values. Iran remains committed to justice, equality, and eliminating discrimination.โ He highlighted Iranโs ongoing engagement with the United Nations and its willingness to cooperate with global partners in promoting human rights.
On the role of women in Iran, Dr. Gholampour stressed their increasing participation in education, healthcare and governance. โWomen now constitute over 50% of our healthcare workforce, and more than 56% of university students in Iran are women. We have also made significant strides in appointing women to high-ranking judicial and government positions,โ he noted.
The discussions underscored Kenya and Iranโs longstanding diplomatic relations and the importance of continued engagement in justice and human rights matters to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.
