Senator Crystal Asige joins the world in celebrating #InternationalWomensDay!

Nominated Senator Crystal Asige has urged a broader, more forward-thinking approach to gender equality, calling on society to embrace diverse perspectives in tackling systemic barriers.

"It’s not just gender equality as we have known it. We must integrate gender perspectives into AI, climate change, security, and more," she said, emphasising the need for policies that reflect the complexities of the modern world.

Asige highlighted the urgency of adapting to rapid global shifts, warning that without a proactive approach, gains in gender equality could be undermined in the coming decades.

On affirmative action, she challenged conventional narratives around representation, questioning whether mere presence equates to real influence.

"Getting women in the room is one thing, but are they truly at the table? Are they part of key decision-making?" she asked.
