Senator Mohamed Said Chute (Marsabit) has called for urgent intervention over the stalled completion of Sololo Level V Hospital, a critical healthcare facility meant to serve residents of Marsabit County. Despite construction efforts spanning more than seven years, the hospital remains unfinished, leaving thousands without access to essential medical services.
Raising the through a Statement request, Chute has asked the Senate Committee on Roads, Transportation and Housing to provide clarity on the project's status. Initially under the Marsabit County Government, responsibility for the hospital was later transferred to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for completion. Yet, despite a scheduled completion date of March 2024, there has been little progress and no clear communication on its delays.
The senator has demanded a comprehensive update on the hospitalโs construction, including its total size, the percentage of work completed, outstanding tasks and reasons for the prolonged delay. He has also pressed for a revised timeline for completion, warning that continued inaction is worsening the healthcare crisis in the region.
Beyond timelines, Chute has called for full disclosure of the projectโs finances. He wants the committee to outline the original cost, any cost variations and the total investment made by KDF. He has further sought clarification on whether additional funds have been allocated and how much more is required to see the hospital completed and operational.
At the heart of his demands is a pressing question: when will the people of Sololo finally gain access to the healthcare services they have long been promised?
