Senator Mohamed Chute (Marsabit) has sought a statement from the Senate Committee on Energy regarding the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) PLC Wind Power Project in Loyangalani, Marsabit County.

In his request, Senator Chute has called on the Committee to provide comprehensive details on the existing policies, agreements, and feasibility studies conducted for the project. He has also urged the Committee to clarify the project's expected environmental and socio-economic impact, as well as its implementation timeline.

"Mr. Speaker, the Committee should provide information on land use, specifying the total land area required for the project, the site selection criteria and the projected electricity output," he stated.

Additionally, the Senator has asked the Committee to confirm whether the power generated from the project will be integrated into the national grid or designated for local consumption.

Senator Chute has further requested the Committee, chaired by Senator Oburu Odinga (Siaya) to outline the direct benefits of the project to the Loyangalani community. This includes proposed compensation for land use, employment opportunities, infrastructure development and an assessment of whether adequate public participation was conducted before the project's implementation.

Moreover, the Marsabit Senator has urged the Committee to disclose whether KenGen will establish an operational site in Loyangalani and to provide updates on employment opportunities available for local workers and contractors.

In conclusion, the Senator has sought clarification on the project's total investment, including funding sources, government incentives and the development of critical infrastructure such as road networks.
