Marsabit County Senator is seeking a Statement from the Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources regarding the status of land ownership and utilization by the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS).
In the Statement, the Committee should address the total acreage of land owned by the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) in respective counties, specifying the number of parcels with ownership documentation and those without.
Sen. Chute wants the committee to state the measures put in place to expedite the issuance of title deeds for the parcels without ownership documentation, including a timeline for issuance of the title deeds.
The Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources is expected to state the acreage and location of parcels of KPS land that have been allocated for the Affordable Housing Programme, disclosing the number of housing units to be developed on each parcel and the identities of the respective developers; and the acreage and location of parcels of KPS land that have been illegally occupied and encroached upon, stating whether KPS has taken steps to reclaim these parcels of land and, if so, provide an
update on the progress
Lastly, Sen. Chute has urged the committee to disclose measures in place to prevent further encroachment or illegal occupation of KPS
