Ministry of Defence pledges swift Senate engagement and resolute action on security challengesππ¨π§πππ², ππππ‘ πππ«ππ‘ ππππ
The Ministry of Defence has pledged to fast-track its responses to matters raised by the Senate concerning National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations. This commitment was made during a meeting between the Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations and Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Soipan Tuya.
During the session, the Ministry vowed to address critical land disputes between the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and communities in various parts of the country. CS Tuya emphasized that her Ministry is exploring alternative mechanisms for resolving these disputes and compensation matters. She urged political leaders to champion civic education efforts to help local communities understand the strategic importance of military installations in their areas.
Senate Committee Chairperson Sen. Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo) urged the Ministry to take urgent action on emerging security challenges across the country. In response, CS Tuya affirmed the Ministryβs commitment to improving its response to cross-border conflicts and other security concerns.
Addressing the issue of corruption in military recruitment, the Ministry assured lawmakers that it is taking robust measures to eliminate fraud during recruitment exercises. A new policy is being developed to ensure transparency and accountability in the process.
Regarding the persistent threat of terrorism, CS Tuya disclosed plans to construct security roads in Boni Forest, aimed at strengthening the militaryβs ability to combat terrorist activities in the region.
In conclusion, the Ministry reiterated its dedication to working closely with the Senate and all stakeholders to fulfil its mandate. Despite financial constraints, it also committed to supporting the development of essential infrastructure such as schools, healthcare facilities, water projects and roads in affected communities.
