Sen Alexander Mundigi (Embu) has raised concerns in the Senate over the planned relocation of the Embu Sewerage Treatment Plant (ESTP) by the Embu Water and Sanitation Company (EWASCO), calling for greater transparency and accountability in the process.

In a formal request for a Statement, Sen Mundigi urged the Senate Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources, chaired by Sen Mohammed Faki (Mombasa), to clarify key aspects of the project and ensure minimal disruption to affected communities.

He questioned whether EWASCO had conducted adequate public participation, stressing the need for local residents, community leaders and relevant authorities to be fully informed before any major decisions are made. He also raised concerns over compensation for landowners whose properties will be affected, calling for details on the criteria used, the disbursement timeline and assurances that all affected parties would receive fair and timely payments.

Sen Mundigi sought information on how EWASCO plans to handle potential challenges such as land acquisition disputes, environmental concerns and disruptions to local communities. He also demanded clarity on strategies to mitigate unforeseen setbacks that could negatively affect residents and the environment.

The senator further called for transparency in the project's funding, requesting a full breakdown of allocated funds, budget details for each phase and measures to ensure financial accountability.
