Senator Dullo seeks answers on the rising insecurity in Isiolo County

Senator Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo) has sought a statement from the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations concerning the rising insecurity in Isiolo County. 

Sen. Dullo revealed to the House how Isiolo County has witnessed a worrying escalation in violence, including rampant cattle rustling, killings and increased lawlessness. 

“These attacks have left children orphaned, women widowed and entire communities living in fear. Most recently, on 26th March, 2025, Hon. Nicholous Lorot, Member of the Isiolo County Assembly for Burat Ward was shot in a shocking incident that has further underscored the urgent need for robust government intervention,” stated Sen. Dullo. 

The Lawmaker in her request wants the Committee to address among others, the progress of police investigations into the shooting of Hon. Nicholous Lorot including any leads, arrests and efforts to ensure justice is served, measures being taken to stem the proliferation of illegal firearms in Isiolo County and steps to disarm and disband armed criminal elements.

Sen. Dullo who is also the National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations Chairperson further wants the Committee to address interventions in place to combat drug abuse, particularly among the youth, which has been linked to rising insecurity in the region besides highlighting reported cases of cattle rustling in the past six months, including the number of livestock stolen, casualties recorded and recovery efforts undertaken by security agencies. 

The Committee has also been tasked to give the government's plan to enhance security presence in Isiolo, including a long- term strategy to restore lasting peace and stability through a comprehensive security sector overhaul.
