Senator Wahome Wamatinga (Nyeri) has sought a Statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources regarding the status of land belonging to the Kenya Veterinary Vaccine Production Institute (KEVEVAPI), which was transferred to private entities in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties.

In the Statement, the Committee should address the circumstances under which land belonging to KEVEVAPI in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties was alienated and registered under private ownership including any administrative or legal lapses that allowed the transfers to occur.

Senator Wamatinga has also requested the Committee to address the specific steps, if any, taken by the Office of the Attorney General to protect KEVEVAPI's interest and to challenge or prevent the transfer of land from a public to private entity.

Also, clarification by the National Land Commission (NLC) on how the land was excised and registered as private property and the corrective actions being undertaken to ensure the land is reverted to KEVEVAPI.

The Committee should further give a report on all concluded and pending court cases related to the land in question, including the legal status of each case and the associated legal costs and plans by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries indicating how and when it intends to settle the legal fees incurred by KEVEVAPI in defending these land cases and whether any policy reforms are underway to safeguard institutional land in future.
