Senator Okenyuri seeks answers on halted scholarships for Kenyan students in Germany

Sen Esther Okenyuri has called on the Senate Committee on Education to investigate the sudden suspension of funding for Kenyan postgraduate students studying in Germany under a joint programme between the National Research Fund (NRF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Raising the issue with the Senator Betty Montet-led Committee, Sen Okenyuri questioned why the funding was cut without notice, leaving affected students in academic and financial limbo.

She is seeking a full explanation of the circumstances leading to the termination, including whether any terms of the scholarship agreement were violated. The Senator also wants clarity on what steps the government is taking to support students left stranded by the decision and to ensure their studies can continue without further disruption.

Additionally, Sen Okenyuri is pressing for assurances that the National Research Fund will uphold its future commitments and put safeguards in place to prevent similar incidents.
