Sen Raphael Chimera has called for an explanation from the Senate Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights regarding the recent cancellation of 171 advertised positions by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Sen Chimera raised concerns over the JSCโ€™s decision to cancel the recruitment process, initially announced in November 2024. The positions, including 60 legal researcher roles and 111 internships, were withdrawn in March 2025 due to fiscal constraints. The Senator questioned why the Commission proceeded with the job ads without assessing its financial capacity, which, he argued, led to false hope for many qualified candidates.

Sen Chimera also expressed concern about the impact on the Judiciaryโ€™s efficiency, particularly the shortage of legal researchers. He called on the Committee to investigate the JSCโ€™s failure to evaluate its financial situation before advertising the vacancies and to clarify plans for future recruitment, including whether the positions would be re-advertised.

The Senator emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the JSCโ€™s recruitment practices, urging the Committee to address the concerns of affected applicants.
