Nandi Senator Samson Cherarkey has raised concerns in the Senate over the demolition of trader stalls in Kapsabet and the continued discrimination of learners in school sports based on age.

โ€œI want to know why the Nandi County Government demolished stalls without prior notice, even after traders paid for their 2025 licenses,โ€ said Cherarkey. โ€œThis is not just a policy failure, itโ€™s economic sabotage.โ€

In a statement request, the Senator demanded that the Senate Committee on Tourism, Trade and Industrialization investigate why traders were relocated to markets lacking basic facilities like toilets and why the Namgoi Trading Centre was demolished without alternative provisions.

โ€œI am also demanding compensation for the traders who lost their livelihoods overnight. These people deserve dignity and justice,โ€ he added.

In a separate statement to the Committee on Education, Cherarkey decried the age-based discrimination in school sports.

โ€œIt is unconstitutional to bar students above 19 in high school and over 14 in primary school from sports competitions. The court ruled on this in 2019, yet KSSSA and KPSSA continue to act in contempt,โ€ he emphasized.

The Senator called on the Ministry of Education to immediately act against officials disregarding the courtโ€™s decision.

โ€œThese students are being denied opportunities due to outdated, illegal policies. It must stop,โ€ he declared.
