Align the Great Lakes Region budget to strategic needs: advises Kenyan delegation to FP-ICGLR Conference

A delegation from the Parliament of Kenya has advised that the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region should align its budget to the special and strategic needs of the region, pegged on key emergent challenges.
The delegation which is led by Senate Speaker the Rt. Hon. Amason Kingi was representing the Parliament of Kenya in the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR), where the issue emerged during a meeting of the Executive Committee.
Nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian, who sits in the FP-ICGLR Committee on Gender, Children and Vulnerable Persons told the meeting that budgetary allocation to critical humanitarian areas.
Sen. Lemaletian noted that budgetary allocation to the regional refugee crisis and the welfare of vulnerable groups such as women, children, and those living with disabilities was negligible given the conflicts raging in different parts of the Great Lakes Conference.
Other delegation Members who were present at the meeting were Mandera Senator Ali Roba and Buuri MP Hon. Mugambi Rindikiri. Nyeri Senator, who is also a member of the delegation, represented Kenya at a separate meeting of the FP-ICGLR Committee on Finance and Resource Mobilization.
