Senator Eddy Oketch (Migori) has called on the Senate to probe the status of insurance coverage for hospital assets across the country, with a particular focus on Migori County.
Seeking a statement from the Standing Committee on Health, the senator raised concern over the lack of clear information on how hospital assets are insured, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in healthcare infrastructure protection.
In his request, Senator Oketch asked the committee to provide a comprehensive overview of the insurance status of all hospital assets, including those in Migori County.
He further sought detailed information on the budgetary allocation made by the County Executive of Migori for insurance of hospital assets in the 2023/2024 Financial Year.
The senator also called for a categorized breakdown of each hospital asset, identifying its respective insurer and the financial commitment involved.
In addition, he asked for a list of assets that remain uninsured and the reasons behind their exclusion.
He urged the committee to outline the measures being taken by County Governments to ensure that hospital assets are fully insured against potential risks.
