Senator Hezena Lemaletian (Nominated) has requested a statement from the Senate Committee on Health regarding a critical and pressing issue impacting healthcare delivery at Baragoi Sub-County Hospital in Samburu County.

“Mr. Speaker, Sir, Baragoi Sub-County Hospital serves a vast population in northern Samburu County, including remote and underserved communities. The hospital continues to face major challenges in delivering essential health services due to a lack of functional equipment," Senator Hezena stated. "The anaesthesia and X-ray machines have been out of service for an extended period despite repeated requests for repair, forcing patients to seek radiological services in distant Maralal. Furthermore, the hospital lacks a CT Scan and a full haemogram machine, both of which are critical for accurate diagnosis, surgical procedures, and maternal care."

In her statement, Senator Hezena urged the Committee to investigate the reasons behind the prolonged delays in servicing and repairing the anaesthesia and X-ray machines, calling for accountability regarding who bears responsibility for this inaction.

Additionally, the Committee is expected to explore the plans of both the County and National Governments to equip Baragoi Sub-County Hospital with a CT scan machine, a vital resource for enhancing diagnostic capabilities.

Senator Hezena also emphasized the need for clear timelines regarding the procurement of a haemogram machine, which is essential for bolstering the hospital's surgical and diagnostic capacities.

Finally, the Senator called for discussions around immediate interventions necessary to ensure that Baragoi Sub-County Hospital operates at full capacity, meeting the healthcare needs of residents in Samburu North sub-county and the broader county.
