The Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetangโ€™ula and his Senate Counterpart, Hon. Amason Kingi, the Gender, Culture, Arts, and Heritage CS, Aisha Jumwa, KEWOPA and the Multi- Sectoral Working Group (MSWG), held a key consultative meeting today.

The meeting held at Parliament buildings focused on making President William Ruto's plan to meet the two third gender rule in leadership a reality.

They emphasized the need to include this plan in the National Dialogue Committeesโ€™ upcoming report to ensure commitment to gender equality.

Notably, for the past fifteen years, there has been many unsuccessful attempts to address the matter; a challenge for both women and men in the country.

To address this, the MSWG proposed that if Parliament doesn't meet the gender rule requirement, they can add more members until they actualize the target; an idea they said has worked well in County Assemblies.

They indicated that political parties also play a critical role in achieving this milestone.

The Parliamentary leadership assured the stakeholders that they are determined to make history by making the plan work. They dispelled any misconceptions and committed to work together to achieve gender equality, leaving a lasting impact on our country's history.
