Senator Enoch Wambua (Kitui) has sounded the alarm over deepening financial and healthcare crises in Kitui County, urging the Senate to intervene amid growing concerns over unpaid bills and the deteriorating state of public health facilities.

In a request directed to the Senate Committee on Finance and Budget and the Senate Committee on Health, Sen Wambua is demanding full disclosure on the countyโ€™s pending bills, including those inherited from the previous administration. He seeks a detailed breakdown of the total amounts owed, the length of time these debts have remained unsettled and the measures in place to ensure timely payment. The senator warns that the ongoing failure to clear these bills has left local contractors and suppliers on the brink of financial ruin, threatening economic stability in the county.

Beyond addressing immediate debts, Sen Wambua is calling for a long-term solution to prevent the accumulation of unpaid obligations, arguing that systemic delays in payments continue to hinder business growth and service delivery.

At the same time, the senator has raised the alarm over the worsening condition of health facilities in Kitui, calling for an urgent review of the countyโ€™s healthcare system. He has requested a full audit of all health facilities, including their operational status and the extent of medicine shortages.

Sen Wambua is also seeking an explanation for inefficiencies in drug distribution, which have left many public health centres struggling to meet patientsโ€™ needs. Additionally, he has demanded staffing data from 2013 to the present, as well as details of the countyโ€™s annual budget allocation to the health sector.
