Senator Alexander Mundigi (Embu) has requested a statement from the Senateโ€™s Standing Committee on Health regarding administrative challenges affecting the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Speaking in the Senate on Wednesday, Sen. Mundigi expressed concerns over the prolonged vacancy in the CEO position following the suspension of the Acting Chief Executive Officer on November 12, 2024 to allow investigations into his conduct and performance. He noted that the leadership gap has raised concerns among stakeholders, including patients, staff and the general public.

The senator has urged the Committee to explain the delay in appointing a new CEO and provide a clear timeline for the recruitment process. Additionally, he wants details on the factors causing administrative challenges in outpatient claim payments and the Ministry's plans to resolve them including proposed solutions, implementation timelines and allocated funding.
