Lawmakers commit to leverage Social Media platforms for enhanced public engagement

Members of the National Assembly Liaison Committee have pledged to leverage social media platforms effectively to ensure citizens are well-informed and have opportunities to contribute to the legislative process.
Led by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gladys Boss, Members of the Liaison Committee, acknowledged the importance of the fourth estate in dissementaing information and pledged to continuously ensure access to information in line with the Constitution of Kenya.
In the meeting Committee Chairs engaged with Mr. David Omwoyo, CEO of the Media Council who gave an insightful presentation on the importance of upholding media standards for accurate and effective coverage of Parliamentary business. He emphasized how effective communication with the media is crucial for fostering informed public.
Sentiments echoed by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gladys Boss who underscored the importance of upholding journalistic standards for accurate and comprehensive coverage of parliamentary business.
"As the National Assembly we always strive ensure that media has access to documents and information that is necessary to ensure factual reporting."
Members of the Committee reiterated their commitment to using the National Assembly Social media platforms and their own platforms for public engagement particularly to disseminate information on legislative processes including Bills and the work undertaken by House Committees.
Legislators also delibarated on matters relating to Parliamentary diplomacy. In a session chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech, lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to parliamentary diplomacy as a key tool for advancing Kenyaโs national interests on the global stage.
Members of the Liaison Committee acknowledged that unlike traditional diplomacy led by the Executive, parliamentary diplomacy provides an avenue for legislators to engage informally yet effectively on international matters.
Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss highlighted the need for a well-structured approach to parliamentary diplomacy to ensure consistency and effectiveness in global engagements. โParliamentary diplomacy allows us to reinforce Kenyaโs voice on critical global issues while fostering stronger international partnerships. Our engagement must align with Kenyaโs priorities and contribute to national development,โ she stated.
