IEBC selection panel gives status update on the ongoing application for the positions of Chairperson and Members

Members of the Selection Panel for the recruitment of nominees for appointment as the Chairperson and members of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have given a status update on the ongoing application for the positions.

Led by the Panelโ€™s Chairperson, Dr. Nelson Makanda, the Panel on Tuesday disclosed that as of Monday, February 10, 2025 the panel had received 339 applications.

Addressing the media on the second day of their five-days stakeholder engagement and experience sharing workshop in Naivasha, Nakuru County, Dr. Makanda stated that the application is ongoing in compliance with the advertisement and will close on Saturday 15th February, 2025.

โ€œAs provided for in the IEBC Act Cap. 7C, โ€˜the Selection Panel shall, within seven days of its appointment, invite applications from qualified personsโ€™. As a result, the panel proceeded to call for applications from qualified and interested persons through adverts in the print media on Saturday 1st February 2025. This advert was also published in the Special Kenya Gazette on 3rd February, 2025 as well as on the Parliamentary Service Commission website. So far, as at 10th February 2025, we have received 339 applications,โ€ Dr. Makanda said.

According to Dr. Makanda, as the application deadline nears, the panel is engaging with relevant stakeholders in preparation for the task that lies ahead.

Asked about the status of applications that had been submitted back in 2023, Ms. Lindah Kiome the panelโ€™s Vice-chairperson stated that, โ€œAny applicant who had applied previously back in 2023 should be aware that this is a new process and all the applications must fall within the stipulated deadline,โ€.

The panel also reassured the Public that in the process of discharging its mandate, they are guided by the provisions of the Constitution, the IEBC Act Cap 7C as well as other relevant laws that govern the process.

During a session on the recruitment process, Mr. Paul Famba who is the Public Service Commission CEO and Secretary took the Panel Members through the effective guidelines and criteria for selection and recruitment.

They were also taken through the longlisting and shortlisting processes by Ms. Margaret Igane the Chief Human Resource Manager Officer, Parliamentary Joint Services.

In yet another session the Panelist were engaged on how to conduct effective interviews and training and application of the best Human Resource tools.
