National Assembly approves appointment of members to House Business Committee

The National Assembly has approved the appointment of nine Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House Business Committee (HBC) in accordance with the Standing Orders. 

The approval follows nomination letters submitted to the Clerk of the National Assembly by the Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Kimani Ichungโ€™wa, on February 6, 2025, and the Leader of the Minority Party, Hon. Junet Mohammed, on February 10, 2025. 

The newly appointed MPs to the House Business Committee are;

The newly appointed Members join the Speaker of the National Assembly (Chairperson), the Leader of the Majority Party, the Leader of the Minority Party, and the Whips of both parties to form the House Business Committee. 

In a motion tabled in the House, Speaker Moses Wetangโ€™ula directed the newly appointed committee members to convene immediately to plan the Houseโ€™s agenda." I direct all Members of the House Business Committee to meet this afternoon and schedule the business of the House," Speaker Wetangโ€™ula stated.

The House Business Committee, established under Standing Order 171, is responsible for setting the agenda of the National Assembly. 

The HBC's mandate includes preparing and adjusting the Parliamentary Calendar with the House's approval, monitoring and overseeing the implementation of House business and programs, implementing Standing Orders related to the scheduling or programming of House business and the functioning of its Committees.
