Tharaka MP, Hon. George Murugara, has questioned the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over the criteria used to allocate slots to sub counties for the recruitment of teachers.
Hon. Murugara posed the question before the National Assembly, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 42G. Standing order 42G allows a Member of Parliament to direct a question to any Constitutional Commission or Independent office for reply before the associated committee.
In the statement read before the house, the MP called out the unfair allocation process that has seen certain areas of the country left disadvantaged in the ongoing recruitment exercise being carried out by the TSC.
โCould the Commission state why Chiakariga Sub-County in 'Tharaka Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County, has not been allocated any teacher slots in the ongoing teacher replacement recruitment,โ enquired Hon. Murugara
The Lawmaker sought to be apprised on the measures in place to address the unfair, discriminatory, and illegal conduct of the Commission in turning away the teacher applicants across the country from the recruitment exercise and steps to ensure that the applicants are not left out in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
โCan the Commission also elaborate on the criterion used to allocate Tharaka North Sub-County and Tharaka South Sub-County seven (7) and forty-two (42) slots respectively, despite the two (2) Sub-Counties being within Tharaka Constituency?โ further asked Hon Murugara.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Moses Wetangโula directed the Departmental Committee on Education to take up the matter
