National Assembly Speaker, Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, leads Parliament in bidding farewell to Hon. Elachi's Son

A sombre cloud hung over Nalepo Village in Kajiado County as the country’s top leadership, led by National Assembly Speaker Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula, gathered to mourn the tragic passing of Elvis, Son of Hon. Beatrice Elachi. The young man’s untimely demise in a road accident sent shockwaves across the nation, drawing an outpouring of grief and solidarity from leaders and citizens alike.

In a powerful call for unity and national cohesion, Speaker Wetang’ula urged Kenyans to embrace love and collective responsibility in shaping the country's future.

“We call upon Kenyans to take care of our own country because we have no other spare country. Hence, we need to love each other and foster development for the growth of our nation,” he stated.

Reflecting on the fragility of life, Hon. Wetang’ula noted the deeper meaning of Elvis’s passing, which occurred during the Lenten season—a time of spiritual reflection and renewal.

“We encourage the family to hold onto God’s love and peace for fortitude and comfort at this difficult time,” he added.

The funeral brought together a broad spectrum of leaders who not only mourned with Hon. Elachi but also called for greater compassion and support within communities.

KEWOPA Chairperson and Kajiado County MP, Hon. Leah Sankaire, assured Hon. Elachi of unwavering solidarity from women leaders and the people of Kajiado.

“We are with you in grief. We love you and pray for you. May love and peace radiate within your family,” she said.

Hon. Anthony Oluoch (Mathare) shared his heartbreak, recalling his personal encounter with Elvis after his surgery following the accident.

“We were optimistic about his recovery and never imagined that we would see him in a casket,” he lamented.

Senator Edwin Sifuna reaffirmed his support for Hon. Elachi, acknowledging her past role as a Senator and their shared political journey.

On the other hand, National Assembly Majority Whip, Hon. Silvanus Osoro who also is family to the Elachis appreciated the kind gesture extended to them, while Minority Whip, Hon. Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), called for national introspection on the challenges facing the country’s youth.

“As a nation, we must reflect deeply. When we no longer feel the pain of losing a child, we must stop pointing fingers and instead embrace the moment to mourn as a country because we all need each other,” she stated.

In an emotional tribute, Hon. Elachi urged young people to embrace faith and open communication as they navigate life’s uncertainties.

Elvis, aged 26, tragically lost his life in a road accident on 25th March 2025, leaving behind a grieving family and a nation in mourning.

Elvis’s passing serves as a painful reminder of the fragility of life, but also as a call for national unity in moments of grief. 

Hon. (Dr.) Eve Obare (Kasipul Kapondo) who chaired the Funeral Organizing Committee appreciated the support given to the family including that of H.E President Ruto and Former Prime Minister, Hon. Raila Odinga. 

The funeral was attended by an array of leaders, including Cabinet Secretaries Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior & National Coordination), Hon. Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), Hon. Alice Wahome (Lands & Housing), and Dr. Deborah Mulongo (Environment, Climate Change & Forestry). Governors present included Johnston Sakaja, Gladys Wanga, and Cecily Mbarire. Also in attendance were Principal Secretaries Dr. Juma Mukhwana and Susan Mangeni, alongside Members of Parliament Memusi Kanchori, Millie Odhiambo, Samuel Atandi, Emmanuel Wangwe, Antony Oluoch, Nabii Nabwera, Atieno Bensouda, Jerusha Momanyi, Catherine Omanyo, Catherine Muma, Dr. Eve Obare, John Waluke, Martha Wangari, Catherine Wambilianga, Felix Odiwuor, George Aladwa, Sabina Chege, Tabitha Mutinda, and Senators Okiya Omutata and Karen Nyamu. The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, was also in attendance.
