The National Assembly has approved nominees to 63 National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF) Committees, a move set to facilitate the disbursement of bursaries and other constituency-level development initiatives.
While moving the motion, Chairperson of the Committee on National Government Constituencies Development Fund, Hon. Musa Sirma, emphasized the urgency of the appointments, noting that delays in constituting the committees had hampered access to the funds.
โThese names are necessary for the operationalization of the NGCDF, especially given that the board has released some funds meant for bursaries. However, these funds cannot be utilized because the terms of the previous committees have expired, leaving us without signatories,โ said Hon. Sirma.
He further raised concerns over the slow release of funds by the National Treasury, highlighting that only Ksh 14 billion of the expected Ksh 54 billion for the financial year had been disbursed.
โWe are already in the final quarter of the disbursement period, yet the Treasury has only released a fraction of the funds. It is time the remaining balance is disbursed so that development projects can proceed without further delays,โ he added.
The approved constituencies include Alego Usonga, Bomachoge Borabu, Budalangโi, Embakasi North, Gichugu, Kesses, Kinango, and Likuyani, among others.
Members of the National Assembly have called on the National Treasury to expedite the disbursement of the remaining funds to ensure that development projects remain on course.
