Members of the National Assembly have paid moving tributes to the late Hon. Janet Marania Teiyaa, former Member of Parliament for Kajiado County. Hon. Teiyaa passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, following an illness.
Kajiado County MP, Hon. Leah Sankaire described Hon. Teiyaa as a dedicated leader..โHonourable Speaker, I rise to pay tribute to the former Kajiado County Woman Representative, Hon. Janet Marania Teiyaa, who sadly passed away on Monday, April 7th, 2025,โ Hon. Sankaire said.
Hon. Teiyaa served in the 11th Parliament as a nominated Member representing the interests of persons with disabilities under the National Alliance party (TNA). She was subsequently elected as the Kajiado County Woman MP in the 12th Parliament in 2017.
Following her time in Parliament, the late Hon. Teiyaa joined the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) as a board member, a position she held until her passing.
Hon. Sankaire highlighted Hon. Teiyaa's remarkable resilience stating, โDespite losing her ability to walk at the age of five, she bravely overcame the obstacles faced by persons living with disabilities, becoming an inspiring role model for many in her community.โ
โShe was the epitome of resilience, tirelessly advocating for persons with disabilities across the nation, particularly within Kajiado County,โ Hon. Sankaire added.
NGCDF Committee Chair and Eldama Ravine MP, Hon. Musa Sirma also shared his recollections of the late legislator. โAs the Chairperson of the NG-CDF Committee, Hon. Teiyaa appeared before us for vetting for her position on the NG-CDF Board. I can attest to her immense passion and unwavering commitment to serving this nation,โ Hon. Sirma stated. โFollowing her appointment, her dedication was evident from the onset, as she diligently attended all Committee meetings and NG-CDF functions.โ
Eldas MP, Hon. Adan Keynan, lauded Hon. Teiyaa's life journey and leadership adding. โHon. Janet was an exceptionally strong, resilient, and pragmatic leader. Coming from a pastoralist background, she undoubtedly faced significant challenges. Her pursuit of education and subsequent leadership role serves as a powerful testament that disability is not inability.โ
The Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang'ula, also paid his respects noting. โHon. Teiyaa, as many of us who knew her, was truly an embodiment of the strength of a woman. I campaigned alongside her, and despite her physical challenges, she was present at every single political event in Kajiado, campaigning tirelessly with everyone else.โ
