The National Assembly Board of Management, led by Clerk Samuel Njoroge, on Friday, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was fatally shot by unknown assailants on Wednesday night.

The killing, which took place along Ngong Road near the City Mortuary Roundabout, has shocked the nation and sparked widespread calls for swift and thorough investigations.

According to reports, the MP was ambushed while driving home from Parliament. Witnesses described a sudden and brutal attack, with the assailants fleeing the scene immediately after.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, and police have launched a full investigation.

During the visit, Mr. Njoroge expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the lawmaker, describing him as a dedicated public servant and passionate advocate for development in Kasipul Constituency.

“The National Assembly has lost a committed leader who served his people with devotion,” Njoroge said.

“We stand with the family during this difficult time and call on the authorities to ensure those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.”

The parliamentary delegation included senior officials who assured the grieving family of the National Assembly’s full support during this difficult period.

Members of the late MP’s family, including his children, expressed appreciation for the visit and called on the government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the killing.

Also present during the meeting were members of the Funeral Committee, led by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Minority Whip Hon. Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), and Committee Chair and Homa Bay Town MP Hon. Peter Kaluma, who also serves as a Member of the Speaker’s Panel.

Meanwhile, an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Monday, May 5, and will be conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor. The examination is expected to provide critical details that could help investigators piece together the circumstances of the fatal attack.
