Residents across Siaya County have supported the Constitution of Kenya (amendment) Bill 2025 (National Assembly Bill No. 4 of 2025) which aims to entrench NG-CDF, NGAAF and Senate Oversight Fund into the constitution.
On the 1st day of the Public participation exercise, participants highlighted the benefits of NG-CDF, noting its role in providing bursaries to needy students, construction and renovation of Schools, Chiefs' Offices, and Police Stations, purchase of school buses for schools and creation of employment opportunities.
Some reservations aired include duplication of responsibilities, empowerment of the Finance Ministry to handle development funds and the need to restrict MPs to legislation, oversight and representation.
The exercise which took off today is expected to be concluded on Thursday, May 8th 2025. The feedback collected from the members of the public will guide the Members of Parliament in either approving or rejecting the Bill.
The public participation exercise was well attended by Members of the public in all 6 constituencies of Siaya County, namely, Rarieda, Gem, Ugunja, Ugenya, Alego Usonga and Bondo.
