NANDI COUNTY:- The public participation exercise in Chesumei Constituency took off today as scheduled in an exercise championed by the area MP Hon. Paul Biego.Also in attendance was the MP for Nandi Hills Constituency, Hon. Benard Kitur, who was overseeing the exercise in Nandi County, and the MP for Marakwet West, Hon. Timothy Kipchumba. During the exercise, residents of Chesumei Constituency lauded the NG-CDF for helping them through building of schools across the region and providing support to single mothers and widows through bursaries.In her contribution, Salome Yego Biwot, a retired teacher from Chesumei Constituency, pointed out that NG-CDF has done a lot for the Constituents. She noted, “Devolution was meant to cascade resources to the grassroots and it has done that” She suggested that funds from the National Government be increased and channeled through similar programs as oppossed to allocating it all to the County Governments. If you succeed anchoring the three funds into the Constitution, they should be properly oversighted to avoid westage. People with disabilities were also represented. Collins Kipkoech, a person living with disability supported the amendment and proposed that NGAAF, a fund set aside for PLWDS, women and vulnerable groups in the community, be entrenched into law to support them. However, they expressed their reservations regarding the Senate Oversight Fund and requested that it's legislation be put on hold. The exercise drew participation from several categories ranging from PWDs, the youth, the clergy, university students, high school students, and local administration, among other categories.
