Slain Kasipul Member of Parliament, Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, was laid to rest this evening at his home in Kachien, Kasipul Constituency, amid heightened calls for investigative agencies to expedite and deepen the probe into his brutal killing.
The grieving family of the late MP made an emotional appeal to the government, demanding thorough investigations to ensure the arrest and prosecution of everyone involved — from the masterminds to the executors.
Maggie Were, the MP’s widow, called on authorities to deliver justice, saying the family remains devastated and will only find peace once the killers are unmasked.
“We will only find peace when justice is served. My husband served this community with dedication, and his life was cut short in the cruelest way. We demand answers,” she said.
Ann Were, his co-wife, echoed her sentiments.
“We are not just burying a husband today — we are burying a father, a leader, and the pillar of this family. The government must help us uncover the truth,” she pleaded.
Pascal Were, the slain MP’s son, delivered a defiant message, vowing the family would not relent in seeking justice.
“Our father did not raise cowards. We will not be intimidated. We demand justice, and we will fight for it,” he declared, drawing applause from mourners.
Paul Juma Were, the late MP’s elder brother, expressed the family’s shock and deep confusion over the murder, demanding answers on the motive behind the killing.
“Who would want my brother dead? Why was he targeted? As a family, we are grappling with these questions. The police must unravel this mystery,” he said.
While acknowledging the progress made so far, Juma urged law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts.
“We appreciate the work done so far, but we need more. The killers must not go unpunished.”
Boyd Were, Hon. Were’s second-born son, issued a firm warning to anyone attempting to intimidate or silence the family.
“We will not be bullied. Our father stood for truth, and we will honor his legacy by ensuring justice prevails.”
The burial brought together leaders, relatives, friends, and constituents, all united in mourning and in demanding justice for a man remembered as a dedicated servant of the people.
