Monitoring and Evaluation evidence is a crucial element for the successful delivery and implementation of a parliament’s core function in that it facilitates oversight. It provides evidence of performance or and non-performance by approved programmes and projects and assists in informed decision making by leaders.
Legislatures are the peoples’ branch of government, the institution where citizen interests and preferences are expressed and transformed into policy, and the point at which, at least potentially, people most closely engage their national government are at the centre of M& E demand.
They need Evidence from M&E to help in pointing out the potential effects of laws as formulated; review of reports on changes in the lives of citizens made from implementation of policies, programs and projects; deviations from goals and the possible effects on the lives represented by Members.
During the week of 5th – 9th May, 2025, the National Assembly in Collaboration with CPST hosted a committee-based training programme on Monitoring and Evaluation in the Legislatures for Members drawn from six Committees of the National Assembly.
The participants benefited from actionabe insights, case studies and experience sharing on success and challenges in the course of discharging committee mandates
