ICYMI: National Assembly Lands Committee probes Embakasi land dispute.

Nairobi County 1st July, 2025.

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Lands has continued its probe into a land ownership dispute pitting a group of aggrieved settlement scheme members against the Kenya Railways Corporation.

The Committee chaired by North Mugirango MP, Hon. Joash Nyamoko today met a group of aggrieved Petitioners, who claim to have been defrauded of their Land during the purchase of a section of the Land by the Kenya Railways Corporation for a public project.

Appearing during the session chaired by Committee Vice Chairperson Hon. Jehow Fatuma Abdi, the complainants under the umbrella of Matapato Clan sought compensation for part of the larger land parcel, for which they claim to have been the bona fide owners.

Committee Members sought clarification on the bona fide Membership of the Settlement Scheme at the centre of the dispute; dubbed the Dupoto /Dafur Welfare Scheme, who claim to have been the bona fide owners of the parcel no: Nairobi/ Block 125/2173 Dupoto /Dafur Welfare Settlement Scheme.

Petitioners claim that KRC approached them to purchase 55 acres of the 96 acres and paid 2.75 billion with each costing 50million, but some Members were allegedly not compensated for their land.

The Committee has already met another aggrieved group that is also laying claim to the Land, as well as the National Land Commission officials over the matter. The MPs are also due to meet the PS for Lands and Physical Planning Hon. Nixon Korir on the matter.
