Hon. Mayaka pushes for Kenya-Ghana collaboration to strengthen regional integration

The chairperson for the National Assembly Committee on Regional Integration, Hon. Irene Mayaka called for joint initiatives, capacity building and shared advocacy between Kenya and the Republic of Ghana to strengthen their regional unity.

Speaking yesterday during a meeting with Ghana's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration while in the company of Samburu West MP Hon. Naisula Lesuuda, Hon. Mayaka emphasised the importance of Inter-Parliamentary cooperation in driving regional Integration efforts.

“By sharing experiences, comparing approaches and identifying common hurdles, we can help fast-track solutions that are both effective and context-specific. We are particularly keen to learn from Ghana’s experience in regional cooperation and to share some of the lessons and innovations from Kenya’s legislative work in this area,” she said.

She reiterated Kenya’s commitment to key Continental bodies such as the East African Community (EAC), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and the African Union (AU), highlighting their role in promoting economic growth, political stability and social progress across the continent.

Acknowledging the challenges that slow down regional integration efforts; slow implementation and limited public awareness, Hon. Mayaka called for joint Parliamentary efforts to build an impactful partnership that drives real change and shapes Africa’s future.

“Africa's integration journey will be driven not only by treaties and executive decisions but also by the active participation of its parliaments,” she noted.

On his part, the Chairperson of Ghana's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon Alfred Okoe Vanderpuye welcomed the collaboration and pledged to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

He assured the Kenyan delegation of Ghana's support in promoting regional Integration and development across Africa.
