President Ruto directs Shauri Moyo housing project be renamed after late MP, Johana Ng'eno Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Narok CountyFriday, 6th March 2026President William Ruto on Friday directed that the Shauri Moyo Affordable Housing Project be renamed in honour of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Hon. Johana Ng'eno, describing the fallen legislator as a steadfast supporter of the government’s housing programme.Speaking during the late Hon. Ng’eno’s burial at Emurua Dikirr Primary School in Narok County, the President said the project would now be known as the Johana Ng’eno Affordable Housing Estate in recognition of the MP’s leadership as chairperson of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works.“Hon. Johana Ng’eno ensured that the Housing Agenda succeeded. Many leaders came to me asking that I drop the Housing Agenda, but Ng’eno was not among them,” President Ruto said.He praised the late MP for championing the Affordable Housing Programme in Parliament and thanked members of the Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works Committee for supporting the policy.“When I write a book, I will dedicate an entire chapter to the Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works for the role they played in supporting this agenda,” the President added. The Head of State also directed the Ministry of Sports and Culture to allocate Sh20 million annually to support music festivals, saying the initiative would honour Ng’eno’s passion for nurturing the creative industry.Hon. Ng’eno, often referred to by musicians as the Father of Musicians, died alongside five others in a helicopter crash on February 28 in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County. The aircraft reportedly attempted an emergency landing before bursting into flames. The President credited the late MP with spearheading development projects in Emurua Dikirr, noting that roads, technical training institutions and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus in the area bore his imprint.“The history of this area cannot be fully told without Ng’eno. The road network, the technical schools and even the KMTC campus all carry his signature,” he said.Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also paid tribute to the legislator, describing him as a bold leader who fiercely defended the interests of his constituents.“I knew Ng’eno quite well. We did not agree on many things, but he was a very good friend of mine,” Prof. Kindiki said.“We agreed on the vision he had for the people of Emurua Dikirr, although we sometimes differed on the methodology.”The Deputy President said many people underestimated Ng’eno’s intellect and leadership qualities, describing him as a visionary who combined firmness in politics with warmth in personal relationships.“He was a strong defender of his people, sometimes abrasive, but he balanced that with easy laughter when off duty,” he said.National Assembly Speaker, Hon. Moses Masika Wetang'ula, Members of Parliament from both Houses and several Cabinet Secretaries attended the burial, alongside leaders from Uganda and musicians who credited the late Hon. Ng’eno with supporting the music industry and strengthening cultural ties within the Kalenjin community.Leaders across the political divide described him as a fearless legislator who remained deeply committed to the development of Emurua Dikirr and the welfare of his constituents.
