The Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations has resolved to engage the Ministry of Interior and National Administration on increasing insecurity in various parts of the country.

The decision was reached today during a meeting chaired by Committee Chairperson Sen. Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo), where members discussed the security situation in several regions, including Turkana County, which has recently experienced deadly attacks.

Emphasizing the urgency of government intervention, the committee also resolved to engage the Ministries of Defence and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to address tensions along the Kenya-Ethiopia border, where conflicts have led to the loss of lives.

โ€œWe are slated to meet the Cabinet Secretaries for Interior and National Administration, Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and Defence to update us on the status at the Kenya-Ethiopia border in Turkana County,โ€ stated Sen. Dullo.

Additionally, the committee plans to visit counties severely affected by insecurity including Turkana, Kisii, Isiolo, Kajiado, Migori and Kisumu among others.

In the same meeting, members agreed to hold a discussion with various insurance agencies and government bodies, including the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), Social Health Authority (SHA), National Police Service Commission (NPSC), Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety (DOSHS), Jubilee Allianz General Insurance, CIC Insurance, APA Insurance, Britam Insurance, UAP Insurance and GA Insurance. The discussion will focus on the progress of compensation for police officers injured in the line of duty following a petition before the committee.

Other Senators in attendance included Vice Chairperson Sen. Prof. Tom Ojienda SC (Kisumu), Sen. Dr. Lelegwe Ltumbesi (Samburu) and Sen. Joseph Githuku (Lamu).
