The Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds met with Governor Andrew Mwadime (Taita Taveta) and his county executives to review the 2023/24 audit reports of Tavevo Water Company, Mwatate Municipality, and Voi Municipality. Chair Sen. Godfrey Osotsi opened the session with pointed concern for the Tavevo audit report. โGovernor, the Tavevo report highlights significant misallocations and unaccounted discrepancies in expenditure. We need a clear explanation on how these funds are managed,โ he declared.
Sen. Eddy Oketch then zeroed in on the Voi Municipalityโs report. โOur findings from Voi show a stark deviation between projected revenues and actual collections, along with service delivery lapses. Could you detail the corrective measures in place?โ Sen. Oketch inquired, underscoring the urgency of addressing the financial gaps.
Governor Mwadime responded by acknowledging the challenges across the board. โWe are aware of the irregularities in Tavevo and the discrepancies in Voi. Structural inefficiencies, partly inherited, are being systematically tackled. My administration is committed to instituting reforms that will ensure transparent financial management and improved service delivery in Tavevo, Voi and Mwatate,โ he affirmed.
The session underscored the committeeโs determination to secure accountability in county funds, with further reviews scheduled to monitor the governorโs reform initiatives.
