The Senate Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources Chaired by Sen. Mohamed Faki (Mombasa), convened today to discuss the Electronic Equipment Disposal, Recycling and Reuse Bill, 2024, sponsored by Sen. Peris Tobiko.
The Bill seeks to establish a comprehensive legal framework for the environmentally sustainable disposal, recycling and reuse of electronic waste (e-waste). It outlines the roles of both national and county governments in e-waste management, including the licensing of e-waste collectors and recyclers.
Additionally, the Bill proposes the establishment of a National E-Waste Recycling Plant, county-level e-waste sorting sites and ward-level consolidation sites, ensuring a structured and efficient approach to managing electronic waste across the country.
