The Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations has resolved to invite officials from the Police SACCO to provide a detailed briefing on the management and operations of the institution. This resolution was reached during a committee meeting held on Tuesday, chaired by Senator Fatuma Dullo.
Senators unanimously agreed that concerns raised regarding the running of the Police SACCO, particularly issues touching on police officers` contributions warrant immediate attention and scrutiny. โThis is on the welfare of police officers, it is a matter that we really need to know what is happening,โ emphasized Sen. Dullo.
She further stated, โPolice SACCO officials shall appear before our committee because we want them to highlight clearly what is happening in the institution.โ The committee intends to examine how the SACCO is managed and whether it adequately serves the interests of its members, who are mainly officers in the police service.
Earlier in the session, the Committee also discussed the Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2025 on the Foreign Policy of the Republic of Kenya. Members resolved to seek further engagement with the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and plan to conduct oversight visits to selected Missions to assess the implementation of the countryโs foreign policy.
Other Senators present during the session included Vice Chairperson Sen. (Prof.) Tom Ojienda SC (Kisumu), Sen. Joseph Githuku (Lamu), Sen. Julius Murgor (West Pokot) and Sen. (Dr.) Ltumbesi Lelegwe (Samburu).
